Action Analytics - Interactive Strategic Dasboard Development (APPS)
Interactive Strategic Dasboard Development (APPS) program will ultimately provide a comprehensive business intelligence system for Minnesota State Colleges & Universities. APPS will turn raw data into accurate, up-to-date, and readily accessible information for a wide range of employees and public users.
Throughout the enterprise, efforts to collect, consolidate, and analyze information about the operational processes, financial situation, business performance, and other indicators are hampered by inconsistency among data sources, problems with data quality, and a lack of clarity about how to take the knowledge gleaned and turn it into practical and positive changes.
APPS involves loading data from various applications into a data warehouse, and then pulling the necessary information from the data warehouse into various analytical engines. These engines include the activities of decision support systems, query and reporting, online analytical processing, statistical analysis, forecasting, and data mining in order to perform business intelligence and performance management functions.
APPS Deliverables
- Create an accountability dashboard for the Board of Trustees, institutions, policymakers, and other visitors to present the performance of the System on selected key measures:
- Percent change in enrollment
- Tuition and fees
- Licensure exams pass rate
- Persistence and completion rates
- Related employment of graduates
- Facilities condition index
- Create online reports which provide information regarding the percentage of graduates that passed a state or national licensure exam (nursing, teaching, peace officer, and radiography).
- Establish the database structure, create load processes and load data in order to maintain metrics related to student data, which allows for aggregations or drill-downs by student demographics (race/ethnicity, first generation, Pell eligibility or receipt, Perkins status, gender, age, admission status, etc.), location/geography, institution, time periods, and terms.
- Create an online report on student course-taking and course offerings which includes data elements such as level, method of instruction, grades, etc., and has the ability to be analyzed by student characteristics and institution characteristics.
- Create an online report on tuition /fees and revenue/expense metrics at the institution and state levels, which includes national percentile rankings.
- Create a drill down dashboard for the facility conditions measure for the accountability dashboard.
- Create an online report on student course-taking and course offerings which includes data elements such as level, method of instruction, grades, etc., and has the ability to be analyzed by student characteristics and institution characteristics.
- Create an online report on metrics related to graduates their awards, employment, and program and has the ability to be analyzed by student characteristics and institution characteristic.
- Create an online report on metrics related to financial aid and the cost of attendance which has the ability to be analyzed by student characteristics and institution characteristics.
- Create an online report on the pipeline of graduates in specific programs (e.g., majors for those not yet graduated).
- Create an online report on student transfer metrics (# of transfers, transfer student performance, acceptance of credits in transfer) which has the ability to be analyzed by student characteristics and institution characteristics.
